The Santa Ynez Valley's economy is primarily upon the tourism and agricultural industries. Despite only having a total population about 20,000, there are many different types of Santa Ynez jobs. As the valley's largest city and most popular spot for tourism, Solvang has the most jobs available of the five communities in the valley. Solvang has more than 150 stores and more than 700 hotel rooms in the city. While many of the jobs relate to hospitality and tourism, there are a variety of Solvang jobs to choose from.

For lodging, Solvang has everything from bed and breakfasts, to family motels, to country inns, to AAA four–diamond rates hotels. Some of the most popular lodging options include Hadsten House, Hamlet Motel, Kronberg Inn, and Hotel Corque. The Chumash Indians own the Hotel Corque. The nearby Chumash Casino Resort, five miles east of Solvang in Santa Ynez, employs more than 1,500 people.

Solvang Bakery

Solvang has stores that offer beautifully crafted Danish imports, colorful furnishings, arts and crafts, clothing accessories, antiques, toys, and gifts. There are also bakeries, restaurants, and more than a dozen wine tasting rooms. There are also dozens of other businesses in Solvang including banks, tax preparation, financial management, horse ranches, real estate, property management, a florist, catering, car sales, car repair, towing, bicycle rental, chiropractors, dentists, and a variety of doctors including orthopedic, hand, and sports medicine.

There are several schools in Solvang that have teaching and staff positions including Solvang Element Schools, Santa Ynez Presbyterian School, and the Bodywork Associates School of Manual Therapies, the Family Partnership Home Study Charter School, and the Solvang Center of the Allan Hancock College, which has its main campus in Santa Maria. Government jobs in the valley include working for the city of Solvang, city of Buellton, town of Santa Ynez, and Santa Barbara County.

The Santa Ynez Valley is one of the most renowned wine regions of the U.S. There are more than 70 wineries in the valley. If you have a viniculture degree and/or experience, your skills as a winemaker may be in demand. The viniculture industry also employers workers in production and creates demand for equipment and repair. There are also wine tours offered.
